(AU) Has Called On Somalia & Ethiopia To De-escalate The Tension Between The Horn of Africa.

The African Union (AU) has called on Somalia and Ethiopia to de-escalate the tension between the Horn of Africa neighbors. It comes after Addis Ababa signed a deal with the self-declared Republic of Somaliland, a breakaway region in northern Somalia. The Memorandum of Understanding signed on January 1 shows Somaliland granting Ethiopia access to a seaport for maritime economic and military purposes in exchange for Addis Ababa recognizing it as an independent state. Somalia, which views Somaliland as one of its regions, has accused Ethiopia of aggression and recalled its ambassador from Addis Ababa.
