Saudi Arabia to Host 2034 FIFA World Cup: A Milestone in its Sports Journey
In a monumental move, the 6th edition of a significant forum has witnessed the decision for Saudi Arabia to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. This was revealed in a joint statement issued at the forum’s conclusion. The forum, held in the Kingdom of Morocco, was a platform for the foreign ministers of Arab countries and Russia to express their appreciation to Morocco for its successful hosting. The decision for the forum to be held in Morocco was made during the previous edition in Moscow in April 2019, with the Arab League making the request as Morocco presides over its ministerial council.
Strengthening Saudi Arabia’s Sporting Landscape
President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, Yasser Al-Misehal, expressed enthusiasm over Saudi Arabia’s potential to win the rights to host the 2034 World Cup. The country has recently emerged as a hub for various international sporting events, with plans to host the World Boat Championship in water sports and the Desert Polo Championship in Al-Ula. This growing interest in organizing and hosting sporting events extends to fields such as management, law, and technology. These developments operate as a catalyst for both national and international investments in the sports sector, particularly those aligned with entertainment and tourism.
Collaborative Efforts and Future Plans
The ministries of Investment, Sports, Tourism, and Culture, along with the subsidiaries of the Public Investment Fund, have joined forces to bolster the associated sectors with fund allocations for tourism, culture, and sports. One of the key initiatives is the reopening of the Al-Reem International Circuit in Riyadh with the support and participation of the Ministry of Investment. Furthermore, the Polo Federation is planning to organize the first women’s tournament in the coming year.
Saudi Arabia’s Ambition for the 2034 FIFA World Cup
The intention to bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s progress in all sectors and its ambition to become a leading nation in world sport. The bid aims to deliver a world-class tournament, drawing inspiration from the Kingdom’s ongoing social and economic transformation. Since 2018, Saudi Arabia has been home to over 50 international events for both male and female athletes. Their recent success in hosting these events and winning rights to host many international tournaments in the next few years is a testament to the country’s distinguished position, making it an ideal location for an exceptional edition of the World Cup.
