IGP SEEKS CITIZEN-LED CRIME PREVETION.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Baba Alkali, has reiterated the importance of community policing, urging members of the public to give their maximum cooperation for the force to rid the society of criminal elements.
The IGP, who made pledge in Sokoto Wednesday while declaring open a 3- day training workshop on community policing, with participants drawn from four states of the federation at the Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic Sokoto.
Baba Alkali, who was represented by Assistant Inspector General of Police Force Headquarters, Abu Ahmed Sani, maintained that the concept of community policing is a philosophy to enhance the security and safety of citizens and communities in a participatory and inclusive citizen-led manner.
According to him, the training workshop was being held in all the six geo-political zones of the country aimed at training officers on the rudiments
of community policing.
He said 40 participants were selected from Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Jigawa states, aimed at strengthening police community policing architecture in the states in line with the police force’s objectives to strengthen the force against armed banditry, cattle
rustling and other form of criminalities.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Sokoto state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Oseni, called on the participants to pay attentive attention to what they would be thought at the training workshop.
CP Oseni also called on members of the public to assist the police by passing relevant information on strange movement in the locality to the operatives.
